Thomson to Lead Division One

The Windsor Royals are pleased to announce long serving Royals Juniors coach Tony Thomson as the clubs Division One Coach.

Tony brings a rich background in baseball showered with success and accolades.

As a player he represented Queensland Juniors for 7 consecutive years, was selected three times for the Queensland Under 19’s team, was offered two professional contracts with the Cincinnati Reds and the Kansas City Royals.

He played two years of college ball in the USA and thirteen years in Claxton Shield and ABL baseball for Queensland and the Brisbane Bandits, winning four championships with Queensland and one with the Brisbane Bandits.

He played eighth years on the Australian team and co captained the Australian team at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul Korea and was elevated to the Queensland Hall of Fame for his achievements.

As a coach his resume is extensive, coaching West’s A Grade he picked up five championships over nine years.

Tony made the move to Windsor and has spent the last fifteen years coaching junior teams, picking up four championships in seven grand final appearances.

He was twice awarded Windsor Royals team of the year, 2014 and 2017 he was also awarded the Presidents Medal of Valour in 2014.

As the Head Coach of the Brisbane Metro program he lifted two state titles and one national title.

Tony has rounded out the last four years of his junior coaching career as the Windsor Royals Under 20’s coach with an astounding record of 53-2.  An astonishing record by any measure.

Tony’s dream is to now transition the talented youth he has fostered through the Windsor system as the fourth rising Royals Dynasty.

“I can’t wait to get to work.  I want to set a new standard in baseball in Queensland and continue the winning culture of the Windsor Royals,” said Thomson.

Windsor is excited and looking forward to great things happening in the season ahead.

Club President Mark Ready said, “Both myself and Club Coach Aaron Applefield are excited to begin working with Tony. We are excited to see such a celebrated player and coach step up to lead the clubs premier team which is filled with young Windsor talent .”

Thomson is ready to start this season’s campaign with early training sessions beginning this weekend.
