Royal Review Round 4

After a weekend of rain, Royals were back to playing ball.
Thanks to our sponsors, our training shirts came in, and what a difference it makes at training with the playing group in their respective shirts. Thanks again to Rode Pools, Ashgrove Vitality, Sunstate Awning Specialists, Pivotal Motion and Ready Towing for their ongoing support.

Another fun weekend for the kids!

Rookie Ball

WR Rookie River Cats took on Pine Hills Dodgers going down 18-17, with Ben B the player of the week.

WR Rookie Cubs went down to an experienced Pine Hills Giants on Saturday. However despite being early in the season, and having only one team member who has played Rookie Ball before, the boys are hitting the ball really well and the tee is rarely used. Fielding is also coming along with some fantastic outs from Sam at second base bare handing an unreachable (with glove) ball to make a crucial out as well as great outs particularly from Lachlan and Ben. Ben’s improved skills with the glove and solid hitting earned him Saturday’s MVP.

Little League

Little League Rams took on each other at Windsor. Royals Blue Very proud of our team on Saturday.  Played against the Royals Reds. The team is coming together nicely and encouraging each other.  We are very proud of the team. They are really stepping up and helping each other out.  Even though it was an early game they all came prepared and ready to go.  With each game that is played their skills are improving out of sight.  They also had their game faces on.

Little League Bandits Blue Takes 7-2 Victory Over Red Sox. Saturday morning saw the Royals LL Major Blue squad play its first home game of the year against a tough Carina Red Sox.

Will P. started the game on the mound for The Royals Little League Blue. He allowed two hits and two runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking zero.

Parker L. closed out the game for the Royals Little League Blue. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over four innings, striking out ten and walking zero.  Jake L. threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Highlights included big days at the plate by Parker, Lewis F., Will F., and Will P. each collected two hits to lead The Royals Little League Blue.

Our defence was again solid with big run-saving defensive plays by Carson P., Remi W., Jake and Max S.

The boys would like to thank the club and our sponsors for the awesome training jerseys – THANK YOU!!!

Little League Bandits Red had a tough day at the office against a strong Pine Hills Lightning outfit.

Left Field Corner looked immaculate and we had the assistance of grounds keeper Cooper Thomson himself, calling the plate.

A full two-hour game ended with a Lightning victory with some pitching and base running aspects to work on during the week.

Of note was our scoring supplied by rookie Aida (Max’s Mum), in her first solo full game, putting to good use skills learnt through the Club’s in-house clinics, as well as tips provided by my Mum Kay over last season and this season so far. Great stuff Aida, really appreciate the assistance!

Final score Lightning 22- Royals 7..

Junior League

JL Blue went to Padres to play Padres White. Gabriel had a hard day on the mound, but held his head and came up with 4 excellent outs at first base. Jock helped keep the team competitive with great pitching. Charlotte did great with a hit through 2nd to score two and Aymeric had his first RBI. The team fought hard to fight back but there wasn’t enough time. Final score was 7-11

Windsor Junior League Red win 2-0.  This weeks game was a pitching duel; the first run wasn’t scored until the bottom of the 5th. Linden R. pitched 5 innings with 10K’s and Billy R. 2 innings and 5K’s. This was a fantastic effort by both pitchers, great job Linden and Billy!

Our batting was a bit quiet; most probably due to having the week off. A couple great swings by Ethan , earning the teams only RBI.  The team played great defence again; no errors.

Senior League

SL WR/Carina Rams

This week’s game saw us playing on our beloved Windsor home field.  Padres got a jump on us early and we struggled to come back.  We improved towards the back end of the game but Padres were too strong, going home with a 17-6 win.

The combined Windsor/Carina team is gelling well given we only come together on game day.  The player of the game for Windsor has to be Lachie G. for his “never give up” attitude and heart stopping “Pickles” (yes, there were multiple pickles) successfully stealing home after Padres ran out of players to wear him down.

Senior League Bandits fought out a tough 8-8 tie with Pine Hills.

Windsor led for much of the game, but a couple of back to back errors and multiple mental mistakes shifted momentum and put Pine Hills in the lead.  The team showed great resilience to fight back from 2 runs down and tie it up in the top of the last, and then we held them scoreless in the bottom to seal the tie.

There were a number of performances worthy of mention. Liam M was strong as our starting pitcher. Cam P. was great as our closer. Lachie R. was very strong at catcher and also with the bat.  It was also great to see a number of players with their first hits for the season, and a number of extra base hits. Communication has also improved greatly.

Both Lachie and Josh played well against their former team.

MVP points this week went to Lachie R. and Cam P. who both stood out.

The team is starting to come together and the line-up is becoming clear.  If we can reduce the mental mistakes and errors and work together, we will become a formidable team.

WR Red lost 4-3 on a walkoff error. The team led the whole game until the last 2 innings. Franco N. was our best hitter on the day with a couple hits and RBIs. Maxim W. and Seth M. were our best pitchers throwing 5 scoreless innings.

WR Blue v Redlands at Redlands. WR took lead with Rory S. 3base hit with an RBI in the 1st inning. Ethan W pitched to keep Rays scoreless till 5th inning. Rory S. holding Rays top 1R while WR 2nd run in by Matt W. two base hit with an RBI in 4th inning, then Ethan followed up with a single/two RBI hit. Lachlan C. single with an RBI in the 6th.

WR Blue won the game agains Redlands 5-1

Div 5 Blue

Royals Blue took on a fiery Padres. Standout was In the park home run by Carl Gervais in his first game of season

Unfortunately 5 to 10 run loss.

Windsor Division 3 take on the Beenleigh Hawks.

The team welcomed new club members BJ Wall and Ryugi Niwa. Returning to the field was Marcel McFail and Luke Maccoun.  Alex Lauritzen made his debut on the mound – although shaky early steadied to throw the complete game and took home a win with a score of 9-4.

All hitters contributed throughout the game – Tyler McCluskey leading from the top of line up and all hitters contibuting with clutch knocks and solid at bats. Defencively the team was solid all around the diamond.

Big thanks to Javier Gonzalez and Casey Love for umpiring in warm conditions. The team takes on Wests next week and looks to continue on a positive start for the season.

Div 2

Another new team to play this week saw us take an 11-0 win where we were rarely challenged. Every hitter took a great approach at the plate and that paid off in spades with Franco Natale hitting 2 triples and a double. Cooper Thomson, Josh Marriott and Yuto Kobayashi all combined for a team shutout. Final score Windsor 11 – Coomera 0. Player of the week – Franco Natale

Div 1

With the return of Ryan Searle and Matt Timms to Windsor on Friday night, they combined to get the win 4-3.

Yong Lee aka ‘Korean Kevin’ and Matt Rox homered in Sunday’s game. With Brandon Bidois’ second start in Div 1 hit a walk off double in the bottom of the 10th and had 3 hits in the game. Final score 6-5.
