Coming back to kick off the 2018 part of the season, Stephen Swagerty threw well where he struck out 14 hitters. After taking the lead early, we squandered a 3-0 lead, with Redlands tying the game up with a two out rally. We lost on a walk off catchers interference which was a very strange way to end the game. The guys needed the hit out to get the cobwebs out.
We scored 4 runs in the first inning and never looked back. Matt Watson threw 5.2 innings where he was keeping the Redlands hitters off balance. Rory Spletter and Stephen Swagerty both combined in relief to shut down the Redlands offence. Markus Dymalla and Daiki Kimoto both hit hard doubles to the fence in a game where we found the barrel of the bat more often than not. Next weekend we travel to Coomera which will be a good test after they pushed us to the limit earlier in the season.
In a tough game where we were without 9 front line players, we went down to Redlands. In stifling conditions, Ethan Wenban and Quinlan Blaskovich toiled on the mound to keep us in the game. Redlands came up with a few timely hits to blow the game out. Congratulations to Alex Skepton, Josh Marriott, Brandan Bidois, Maxim Watson and Seth McLelland for coming home with a silver medal from the recent Under 18 National Championships. We are all looking forward to having you guys back in the lineup!
